    We are now hiring for a Mental Health Counselor

    Job description:

    At Mended Soul Counseling Services, we provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy to people of all ages and for most problems in life, including depression, anxiety, trauma and relationship difficulties. Mended Soul Counseling Services was established in 2021 and is a woman-owned business. Mended Soul Counseling Services is committed to helping our employees maintain a positive work/life balance to reduce burnout to be able to better serve our community.

    This position is for outpatient therapy services for adults, couples, families, adolescents, and children. Clinician must be comfortable seeing children and working with families as this position will serve many of our younger clients, while still serving our adult clients if the clinician desires. Hours/days are flexible in that the clinician can set and maintain their own schedule. We are seeing clients virtually and in-person at this time. Our administrative staff provides scheduling, billing, and credentialing support and we utilize an EMR.

    We are hiring for part-time positions with flexible hours that have the potential to be expanded to full-time.

    Salary is a percentage split, commensurate with experience, based off the insurance reimbursement rate of the individual client.

    Job Summary:

    The Mental Health Counselor will provide a range of psychological assessment, diagnostic, and/or therapeutic services for individuals, couples, groups, and/or families. The Mental Health Counselor will counsel individuals and groups to promote best possible mental health. The Mental Health Counselor will help individuals deal with thoughts of suicide and depression; anxiety and panic attacks; family, parenting, and marital problems; stress management; problems with self-esteem; executive functioning and difficulty focusing; impulse control issues; and life transitional issues.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    None.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Counsels clients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
    • Maintains confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment.
    • Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies to deal with their problems. Encourages clients to express their feelings and to discuss what is happening in their lives and helps them develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
    • Collects information about clients through interviews, observations, and tests. Prepares and maintains treatment records and reports.
    • Evaluates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists.
    • Evaluates clients physical or mental condition based on review of client information.
    • Acts as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
    • Prepares treatment plans, discharge plans, and follow-up care programs; provides therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as required.
    • Provides and/or arranges for therapeutic interventions as appropriate for patients or clients in a crisis condition and for those with serious disturbance problems.
    • Consults with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals in relation to patient/client records, rights, and responsibilities.
    • Consults with other therapists and related professional and paraprofessional staff, as appropriate, in the performance of therapeutic and/or casework; refers clients to appropriate service agencies as required.
    • Participates in the review of clinical issues and program policies and procedures.
    • Participates in training sessions and workshops to enhance treatment skills.
    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
    • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
    • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
    • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
    • Ability to apply mental health counseling methods and techniques.
    • Knowledge of community mental health resources.
    • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
    • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
    • Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluation skills.
    • Knowledge and understanding of mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
    • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
    • Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
    • Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation.
    • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to clients’ rights.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
    • No or very limited physical effort required.
    • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or directly related field; at least 2 years of directly related experience which may include internship and/or practicum.
    • Certification/Licensure TX licensure as LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or equivalent level, OR licensed out of state and eligible for TX licensure
    • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Conditions of Employment

    • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
    • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
    • Must maintain licensure status.
